About the Authors
Peter Loel Boonshaft stands as one of today's most dynamic voices in music education. He serves as Director of Education for Jupiter Band Instruments and maintains an influential weekly blog that reaches music teachers across the country. His reputation has earned him invitations to speak and conduct throughout the United States and internationally.
His accomplishments have garnered widespread recognition. Boonshaft received the inaugural George M. Parks Award for Leadership in Music Education from the National Association for Music Education and Music For All. He holds memberships in Pi Kappa Lambda and Alpha Chi honor societies and has been named a National Endowment for the Arts "Artist in Residence" three times. Additional honors include the Al G. Wright Award of Distinction from Women Band Directors International, multiple Honorary Life Memberships in the Tri-M Music Honor Society, and selection to the Center for Scholarly Research and Academic Excellence at Hofstra University. Governors from five states have issued him official proclamations, and he has performed for former Presidents Clinton and George H. W. Bush, as well as former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
Boonshaft earned a Bachelor of Music degree (Summa Cum Laude), a Master of Music Education in Conducting, and a Doctor of Musical Arts. He also holds a Certificate from the Kodály Musical Training Institute, where he studied as a Connecticut General Fellow. As Professor Emeritus of Music at Hofstra University, he previously taught at Moravian College and the University of Hartford. He founded and directed both the Pennsylvania Youth Honors Concert Band and the Connecticut Valley Youth Wind Ensemble.
