About the Authors
Peter Loel Boonshaft stands as one of today's most dynamic voices in music education. He serves as Director of Education for Jupiter Band Instruments and is Professor Emeritus of Music at Hofstra University, where he was selected for the Center for Scholarly Research and Academic Excellence. Through his popular weekly blog, he continues to inspire music educators across the country and beyond.
His contributions to the field have earned him national recognition, including being the inaugural recipient of the George M. Parks Award for Leadership in Music Education from the National Association for Music Education and Music For All. He holds memberships in Pi Kappa Lambda and Alpha Chi, and has received the University of Hartford's Regent's Award twice as well as their Outstanding Music Educator Award. Additional honors include three selections as an NEA "Artist in Residence" and the Al G. Wright Award of Distinction from Women Band Directors International.
Boonshaft's speaking and conducting engagements have taken him to all fifty states and internationally. He has performed for Presidents George H. W. Bush and Bill Clinton, former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, and received recognition from five state governors and a Certificate of Appreciation from former President Ronald Reagan. His educational background includes a Bachelor of Music (Summa Cum Laude), Master of Music Education in Conducting, and Doctor of Musical Arts degree. He also studied at the Kodály Musical Training Institute through a Connecticut General Fellowship. Earlier in his career, he taught at Moravian College and the University of Hartford while founding and directing both the Pennsylvania Youth Honors Concert Band and the Connecticut Valley Youth Wind Ensemble.
