Robert Sheldon stands among today's most frequently performed composers of wind band repertoire. He serves as lead author of Sound Innovations for Concert Band, a foundational text in the field. His compositions have earned recognition from the American School Band Director's Association, Phi Beta Mu, and the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, establishing him as a voice whose music genuinely connects with performers and listeners worldwide.
Sheldon's works appear regularly on international concert and competition programs. He maintains an active commission schedule and produces numerous new publications for concert band annually. His compositions have been performed at prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall, Orchestra Hall, Symphony Hall, The Sydney Opera House, and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
As a guest conductor, clinician, and educator, Sheldon appears frequently with All-State and Regional Honor Bands across the country. He presents sessions and seminars at universities and state music education conferences, and has conducted and taught throughout the United States, Japan, Canada, Italy, Germany, Australia, and China. In 2020, VanderCook College of Music awarded him an honorary doctorate in recognition of his contributions to music education.
