Robert Sheldon stands among today's most frequently performed composers for wind bands. He serves as the lead author of Sound Innovations for Concert Band and has earned recognition from the American School Band Director's Association, Phi Beta Mu, and the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers. His works have achieved international reach, appearing on concert and contest programs worldwide while captivating both ensembles and audiences through their expressive depth.
Sheldon maintains an active commission schedule and releases numerous concert band publications annually. He regularly guests conducts All-State and Regional Honor Bands while serving as a clinician at colleges, universities, and state music education conferences. His conducting and teaching have taken him across the United States and internationally to Japan, Canada, Italy, Germany, Australia, and China. His compositions have been performed at prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall, Orchestra Hall, Symphony Hall, The Sydney Opera House, and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. In 2020, VanderCook College of Music awarded him an honorary doctorate.

Dr. Boonshaft has received official proclamations from five state governors, a Certificate of Appreciation from former President Ronald Reagan, and has performed for former Presidents George H. W. Bush and Bill Clinton as well as former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. He holds memberships in Pi Kappa Lambda and Alpha Chi honor societies and has been selected three times as a National Endowment for the Arts "Artist in Residence."
Additional recognition includes the Al G.
