Robert Sheldon stands among today's most frequently performed composers in the wind band repertoire. He serves as lead author of Sound Innovations for Concert Band and has earned multiple accolades from the American School Band Director's Association, Phi Beta Mu, and the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers. His compositions are distinguished by an expressive quality that connects deeply with performers and listeners worldwide.
His works appear regularly on international concert and competition programs. Each year he produces numerous new publications for concert band while maintaining an active commission schedule. Sheldon's conducting appearances span All-State and Regional Honor Bands, and he frequently serves as a clinician at colleges, universities, and state music education conferences.
An internationally recognized music educator and conductor, Sheldon has worked throughout the United States and abroad in Japan, Canada, Italy, Germany, Australia, and China. His compositions have been performed at prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall, Orchestra Hall, Symphony Hall, the Sydney Opera House, and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. VanderCook College of Music awarded him an honorary doctorate in July 2020.

Parks Award for Leadership in Music Education from the National Association for Music Education and Music For All. His honors include membership in Pi Kappa Lambda and Alpha Chi; three selections as a National Endowment for the Arts Artist in Residence; and the Al G. Wright Award of Distinction from Women Band Directors International. He holds the rank of Professor Emeritus of Music at Hofstra University and has earned multiple accolades from the University of Hartford, including the Regent's Award (twice) and the Outstanding Music Educator Award.
