Robert Sheldon stands among today's most widely performed composers of wind band music. He serves as lead author of Sound Innovations for Concert Band and has earned numerous accolades from the American School Band Director's Association, Phi Beta Mu, and the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers. His compositions connect deeply with performers and listeners worldwide, appearing regularly on international concert and contest programs.
Sheldon maintains an active schedule of commissions and produces multiple new works for concert band annually. He frequently guests conducts All-State and Regional Honor Bands while serving as a music education clinician at colleges, universities, and state music education conferences. His conducting and teaching have taken him throughout the United States and internationally to Japan, Canada, Italy, Germany, Australia, and China.
His works have been performed in prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall in New York, Orchestra Hall in Chicago, Symphony Hall in Boston, the Sydney Opera House, and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C. In 2020, VanderCook College of Music honored him with a doctorate degree.

He has also performed for former Presidents George H. W. Bush and Bill Clinton, as well as former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. His academic credentials include membership in Pi Kappa Lambda and Alpha Chi honor societies, along with multiple awards from the University of Hartford including the Regent's Award and Outstanding Music Educator Award.
