Robert Sheldon stands among today's most widely performed composers of wind band repertoire. He is the lead author of Sound Innovations for Concert Band and has established himself as a prolific creator whose work reaches ensembles and audiences across the globe. His compositions appear regularly on international concert and contest programs, while he continues to accept commissions and produce numerous publications annually.
Sheldon's achievements have been recognized through awards from the American School Band Director's Association, Phi Beta Mu, and the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers. His music has been performed at prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall, Orchestra Hall, Symphony Hall, the Sydney Opera House, and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. In 2020, VanderCook College of Music honored him with a doctorate.
As a guest conductor and clinician, Sheldon regularly works with All-State and Regional Honor Bands while presenting sessions at colleges, universities, and state music education conferences. Additional recognition includes three selections as a National Endowment for the Arts Artist in Residence and three Honorary Life Memberships in the Tri-M Music Honor Society. Governors from five states have issued official proclamations in his honor, and he has performed for multiple U.S. Presidents and international leaders.
