Robert Sheldon stands among today's most widely performed composers of wind band music. He serves as lead author of Sound Innovations for Concert Band and has earned recognition from prestigious organizations including the American School Band Director's Association, Phi Beta Mu, and the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers. His compositions have gained international reach, appearing on concert and contest programs worldwide while resonating with both ensembles and audiences.
Sheldon maintains an active schedule accepting commissions and releasing numerous new publications annually. He regularly appears as guest conductor for All-State and Regional Honor Bands, bringing his expertise to young musicians across the country. His work as a music education clinician has taken him to colleges, universities, and state music education conferences throughout the United States and internationally to Japan, Canada, Italy, Germany, Australia, and China.
His conducting resume includes performances at some of the world's finest venues: Carnegie Hall in New York, Orchestra Hall in Chicago, Symphony Hall in Boston, the Sydney Opera House, and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C. In 2020, VanderCook College of Music honored him with a doctorate degree.
