Robert Sheldon stands among today's most widely performed composers of wind band music. He serves as lead author of Sound Innovations for Concert Band and regularly receives commissions for new works, producing numerous publications annually. His compositions reach ensembles and audiences worldwide, appearing frequently on international concert and contest programs.
His accolades include multiple awards from the American School Band Director's Association, Phi Beta Mu, and the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers. His works have been performed at prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall, Orchestra Hall, Boston's Symphony Hall, the Sydney Opera House, and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. In 2020, VanderCook College of Music honored him with a doctoral degree.
Sheldon actively contributes to music education as a guest conductor for All-State and Regional Honor Bands and as a clinician at colleges, universities, and state music education conferences. His work has taken him across the United States and internationally to Japan, Canada, Italy, Germany, Australia, and China, where he continues to conduct performances and lead educational seminars.
