Robert Sheldon stands among today's most frequently performed composers of wind band music. He serves as lead author of Sound Innovations for Concert Band, and his works have earned recognition from the American School Band Director's Association, Phi Beta Mu, and the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers. His compositions reach audiences worldwide and consistently appear on international concert and contest programs.
Sheldon maintains an active schedule accepting commissions and releasing numerous new publications annually. He regularly guests conducts All-State and Regional Honor Bands while also working as a music education clinician at colleges, universities, and state music education conferences. His conducting career has taken him throughout the United States and internationally to Japan, Canada, Italy, Germany, Australia, and China. Notable performance venues for his works include Carnegie Hall in New York, Orchestra Hall in Chicago, Symphony Hall in Boston, the Sydney Opera House, and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C. In 2020, VanderCook College of Music awarded him an honorary doctorate.
