Robert Sheldon stands among today's most frequently performed composers of wind band music. He serves as lead author of Sound Innovations for Concert Band and has garnered recognition from the American School Band Director's Association, Phi Beta Mu, and the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers. His compositions have achieved a distinctive artistic voice that connects with both performers and listeners across the globe.
Sheldon's works appear regularly on international concert and contest programs, and he maintains an active commission schedule while producing numerous new publications for concert band annually. His conducting and educational impact extends worldwide, including appearances as guest conductor for All-State and Regional Honor Bands as well as clinician presentations at colleges, universities, and state music education conferences. He has worked extensively throughout the United States and internationally in Japan, Canada, Italy, Germany, Australia, and China, conducting his compositions at prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall, Orchestra Hall, Symphony Hall, the Sydney Opera House, and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

He holds memberships in Pi Kappa Lambda and Alpha Chi honor societies and has been named a National Endowment for the Arts "Artist in Residence" three times. Additional honors include the Al G. Wright Award of Distinction from Women Band Directors International, honorary life memberships in the Tri-M Music Honor Society, and selection for the Center for Scholarly Research and Academic Excellence at Hofstra University, where he serves as Professor Emeritus of Music.
