Robert Sheldon stands among the most frequently performed composers in the wind band repertoire today. His works appear regularly on international concert and contest programs, and ensembles worldwide perform his music in venues ranging from Carnegie Hall to the Sydney Opera House. Beyond his prolific output as a composer, Sheldon serves as lead author of Sound Innovations for Concert Band and has earned recognition from the American School Band Director's Association, Phi Beta Mu, and the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers for his distinctive voice and contributions to the field.
His schedule keeps him in constant demand as both a conductor and clinician. He leads All-State and Regional Honor Bands, presents educational sessions at universities and state music education conferences, and regularly accepts new commissions. His conducting and teaching experience spans the United States and extends internationally to Japan, Canada, Italy, Germany, Australia, and China.

Since 1953, he has shaped how strings are taught in American schools through his prolific output of instructional materials and performance pieces.
