He serves as lead author of Sound Innovations for Concert Band and has earned numerous accolades from the American School Band Director's Association, Phi Beta Mu, and the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers. His compositions are performed globally and frequently appear on international concert and competition programs.
Sheldon maintains an active schedule accepting commissions and releasing multiple publications annually for concert band. He regularly guests conducts All-State and Regional Honor Bands while also serving as a clinician at colleges, universities, and state music education conferences. His work has taken him across the United States and internationally to Japan, Canada, Italy, Germany, Australia, and China, with performances of his music presented at Carnegie Hall, Orchestra Hall, Boston Symphony Hall, the Sydney Opera House, and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
In 2020, VanderCook College of Music awarded Sheldon an honorary doctorate in recognition of his significant contributions to music education and composition.

Peter Loel Boonshaft is recognized as one of today's most dynamic voices in music education. As Director of Education for Jupiter Band Instruments, he has established himself through speaking and conducting engagements across all fifty states and internationally. His achievements have earned him numerous prestigious honors. Boonshaft became the first recipient of the George M. Parks Award for Leadership in Music Education, presented jointly by the National Association for Music Education and Music For All. He holds memberships in Pi Kappa Lambda and Alpha Chi honor societies and has received the University of Hartford's Regent's Award twice, along with its Outstanding Music Educator Award. Additional recognitions include three National Endowment for the Arts Artist in Residence selections, three Honorary Life Memberships in the Tri-M Music Honor Society, and the Al G. Wright Award of Distinction from Women Band Directors International.
Boonshaft earned his Bachelor of Music (Summa Cum Laude), Master of Music Education in Conducting, and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees. He completed study at the Kodály Musical Training Institute through a Connecticut General Fellowship and holds a Certificate from that program. His career includes faculty positions at Moravian College and the University of Hartford, where he is now Professor Emeritus of Music and was selected for the Center for Scholarly Research and Academic Excellence at Hofstra University.
