Robert Sheldon stands among today's most widely performed composers of wind band literature. He serves as lead author of Sound Innovations for Concert Band and has earned recognition through multiple awards from the American School Band Director's Association, Phi Beta Mu, and the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers. His compositions connect deeply with performers and audiences, with performances occurring regularly across the globe and appearances on many international concert and contest programs.
Sheldon maintains an active schedule accepting commissions for new works while producing numerous publications for concert band annually. His guest conducting appearances include All-State and Regional Honor Bands, and he regularly serves as a clinician at colleges, universities, and state Music Education Association conferences. He has worked throughout the United States and internationally in Japan, Canada, Italy, Germany, Australia, and China, conducting his own compositions at renowned venues including Carnegie Hall, Orchestra Hall, Symphony Hall, the Sydney Opera House, and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
In recognition of his significant contributions to music education, VanderCook College of Music awarded him an honorary doctorate in July 2020.

His influence extends globally, with speaking and conducting engagements across every U.S. state and internationally.
Boonshaft's achievements include honors from five state governors, a Certificate of Appreciation from former President Ronald Reagan, and performances for former Presidents George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton as well as former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. He holds memberships in Pi Kappa Lambda and Alpha Chi and has received the University of Hartford's Regent's Award twice along with its Outstanding Music Educator Award. Additional recognition includes three National Endowment for the Arts Artist in Residence selections, the Al G. Wright Award of Distinction from Women Band Directors International, and three Honorary Life Memberships in the Tri-M Music Honor Society.
