Sheldon's achievements have been recognized through numerous awards from the American School Band Director's Association, Phi Beta Mu, and the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers. He maintains an active schedule of commissions and produces substantial new publications for concert band annually. In 2020, VanderCook College of Music honored him with a doctorate.

Boonshaft's contributions to the field have earned him remarkable distinction. He was the inaugural recipient of the George M. Parks Award for Leadership in Music Education, presented jointly by the National Association for Music Education and Music For All. His academic credentials include a Bachelor of Music (Summa Cum Laude), Master of Music Education in Conducting, and Doctor of Musical Arts, along with a Certificate from the Kodály Musical Training Institute. Additional honors encompass three National Endowment for the Arts Artist in Residence selections, the Al G.
