About the Authors

John O'Reilly

Mark Williams
Mark Williams stands among the most prolific composers writing for school bands and orchestras. He authored the widely used Accent on Achievement Band Method and produced over 200 published compositions throughout his career. His background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Education and Master of Education from Eastern Washington University, along with service as a woodwind performer and arranger for the 560th Air Force Band.

A dedicated educator, Williams spent many years teaching music in Washington state with a focus on elementary band programs. His work as a clinician and guest conductor took him across North America and beyond, reaching 34 states, 5 Canadian provinces, and Australia. His compositions earned significant recognition, including the Gralia Competition from the Western International Band Clinic and multiple ASCAP Special Awards.

Beyond his compositional work, Williams maintained an active performance schedule on bassoon and served as Conductor and Artistic Director for the Spokane British Brass Band. A native of Chicago, he developed his musical roots in Spokane, Washington.
