About the Authors
Mark Williams stands among the most prolific composers for school bands and orchestras. A Chicago native who spent his formative years in Spokane, Washington, he devoted much of his career to music education in that state, with a particular focus on elementary band instruction. His academic training included degrees in education from Eastern Washington University, and he also served as a woodwind performer and arranger with the 560th Air Force Band.
Williams authored over 200 published compositions and co-developed the widely used Accent on Achievement Band Method. His work earned recognition through awards such as the Western International Band Clinic's Gralia Competition and multiple ASCAP Special Awards. As a guest conductor and clinician, he brought his expertise across North America and beyond, visiting 34 states, five Canadian provinces, and Australia.
Beyond composing and teaching, Williams maintained an active performance career as a bassoonist and led the Spokane British Brass Band as conductor and artistic director.
