About the Authors
Mark Williams stands among the most accomplished composers dedicated to school band and orchestra music. A Chicago native who spent his formative years in Spokane, Washington, he built an extensive career in music education and composition, earning degrees in both Education and Music Education from Eastern Washington University. His creative output includes more than 200 published works, establishing him as a prolific voice in the field.
Beyond his composing, Williams gained recognition through numerous prestigious honors, including the Gralia Competition from the Western International Band Clinic and multiple ASCAP Special Awards. He co-authored the widely used Accent on Achievement Band Method, which has shaped music education across the country. His expertise in elementary band instruction became legendary throughout Washington state, where he maintained a long teaching career.
As a clinician and guest conductor, Williams spread his influence across North America and internationally, visiting 34 states, five Canadian provinces, and Australia. He also performed professionally as a woodwind musician and arranger with the 560th Air Force Band. In his native Spokane, he served as Conductor and Artistic Director for the British Brass Band, maintaining an active presence as a performer on bassoon throughout his career.
