Description
This series offers a versatile selection of the hottest pop and rock songs for flute, clarinet, alto sax, tenor sax, trumpet, horn in F, trombone, violin, viola, and cello that can be performed as ensembles or solos. Each book contains carefully edited arrangements appropriate to each instrument, and well suited for level 2--3 students. The CD includes a fully orchestrated demo track of each song, which features a live instrumental solo performance, followed by a play-along track. Also included are PDFs of piano accompaniments, and Alfred's Tempo Changer software. Due to level considerations regarding keys and instrument ranges, the arrangements in the wind instrument series are not compatible with those in the string instrument series.

More about this title

Why we love this

Current hits keep students engaged, and this collection proves that pop and rock can build real musicianship without sacrificing fun. The inclusion of both demo and play-along tracks means students hear a professional performance first, then have the confidence to step into that solo themselves with full orchestration behind them.

What to expect

Fresh and energetic. These arrangements capture the groove and appeal of the original recordings while staying within trumpet-friendly ranges and keys. Playing through them feels like stepping into a recording studio rather than working through a traditional etude.

Who it's for

Trumpet students in grades 2 and 3 who respond to contemporary music and want to perform recognizable songs. These arrangements also work well for young musicians building confidence in solo performance or for small ensemble programs needing accessible, engaging repertoire.

How to get the most out of it

  • Listen through the demo track before rehearsing to internalize the style and phrasing of each arrangement, then switch to the play-along to develop independence from the accompaniment.
  • Pay attention to the dynamic markings and articulation throughout; these songs depend on crisp attacks and controlled releases to match the recorded version's energy.
  • Use the Tempo Changer software to slow down tricky passages during practice, then gradually return to performance tempo once the notes and rhythms are secure.

How to use it

Perfect for solo performance opportunities at concerts or competitions where contemporary appeal matters. You can also extract individual titles for student recitals throughout the year, or select a few as opening numbers for ensemble concerts to set a modern, accessible tone.

Skills your students will build

  • Stylistic interpretation of pop and rock idioms
  • Sustained solo performance with accompaniment
  • Reading and executing dynamic and articulation markings across contemporary arrangements
  • Rhythmic accuracy in grooved, syncopated passages
