Description
Cirque du Soleil, French for "Circus of the Sun," is a unique entertainment venture that has been thrilling audiences since its inception by two street performers over 20 years ago. Acts include a unique combination of individual storylines, dance and opera performances, contortionists, jugglers, trapeze artists and many other talented performers, all set to the tune of live music. While performances do not feature the animals typically found in a regular circus, the modern style of Cirque du Soleil has earned it recognition as one of the world's best circuses for their use of extreme creativity, talented performers, and their ability to constantly evolve shows to maintain their enthralling nature.

Alfred now introduces the music to some of Cirque du Soleil's most popular songs, derived from a variety of show soundtracks. Songs come complete with lyrics, melody line, and chord changes with professionally arranged piano accompaniment.

More about this title

About the Artist: Cirque Du Soleil

Cirque du Soleil emerged from the creative vision of two Montreal street performers in 1984 and has since become a global phenomenon, redefining circus as an art form that blends acrobatics, dance, theater, and live music. The company's productions span intimate intimate intimate concerts to large-scale theatrical spectacles, each one built on a foundation of original music that heightens the emotional and visual storytelling. Their composers and musicians draw from diverse cultural traditions and contemporary styles, creating soundtracks that are equally compelling in concert settings and classroom performances.

Why we love this

This collection captures the theatrical richness and emotional depth that define Cirque du Soleil's approach to music. The piano arrangements are sophisticated enough to hold an audience's attention while remaining accessible for serious pianists and singers; you get professionally crafted accompaniments without losing the human warmth that makes these songs connect with listeners.

What to expect

These songs carry the wonder and emotional transparency of live circus performance translated into intimate concert settings. The piano writing balances elegance with accessibility, creating space for the voice to shine while maintaining the atmospheric richness that Cirque du Soleil audiences recognize.

Who it's for

This collection serves pianists and singers preparing repertoire for recitals, auditions, or concert programming that calls for contemporary theatrical material with universal appeal. Music teachers and private instructors working with advanced students will find these arrangements professional and engaging enough to sustain serious study without requiring orchestral forces.

How to get the most out of it

  • Study the chord chart carefully before diving into the full arrangement; understanding the harmonic progression will help you anticipate accompaniment changes and stay secure with a pianist.
  • Lean into the dramatic pacing of each piece. Cirque's music often builds through subtle dynamic shifts rather than sudden changes, so resist pushing the tempo and let the arrangement unfold naturally.
  • If performing with a live pianist, mark clear breath points and cues in both the vocal line and the score to ensure ensemble cohesion, especially in passages where the melody sits high or extends beyond typical phrase lengths.
  • Explore the cultural and theatrical origins of each song; knowing whether a piece draws from Latin, Asian, or contemporary influences will inform your interpretive choices and help you convey authenticity.

How to use it

Weave individual selections into recitals celebrating theater and contemporary music, where they sit naturally alongside other art song or cabaret material. A program pairing Cirque du Soleil songs with classical or modern art songs creates engaging narrative contrast and appeals to audiences who may not regularly attend traditional classical concerts.
