James D. Ployhar

James D. Ployhar has established himself as a prolific voice in music education, with more than 800 published compositions to his name. His development of the Contemporary Band Course, now published by Alfred Music, represents a significant contribution to band pedagogy; the course has been translated into French and Norwegian and is widely used in schools internationally, particularly throughout Norway. Beyond composition, Ployhar brings deep orchestrational knowledge gained through collaboration with Knud Havalde of the Danish Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and his music has been performed across Europe, Japan, and the Pacific Rim.

Ployer's career spans both the classroom and the podium. He taught in public schools for over 19 years and has conducted clinics and workshops at the college and university level throughout the United States, Canada, Norway, Germany, and England. His academic preparation includes degrees from Valley City State University and Northern Colorado University, as well as graduate study in composition at California State University–Long Beach. Recognition of his contributions includes the National Band Association Citation of Excellence and the Distinguished Alumnus Award from his alma mater.
