About the Authors
Mark Williams stands out as a leading composer specializing in school band and orchestral music. Born in Chicago and raised in Spokane, Washington, he dedicated much of his career to music education in Washington state, with particular focus on elementary band instruction. His scholarly contributions include co-authoring the Accent on Achievement Band Method, a significant resource in music pedagogy.
Williams's creative output spans over 200 published compositions for band, orchestra, and choir. His accolades include the Western International Band Clinic's Gralia Competition award and multiple ASCAP Special Awards, recognizing his contributions to instrumental music. He also served as woodwind performer and arranger for the 560th Air Force Band and holds degrees in music education from Eastern Washington University, including both Bachelor of Arts and Master of Education credentials.
Beyond composing, Williams maintained an active presence as a clinician and guest conductor, visiting 34 states, five Canadian provinces, and Australia. He performed regularly on bassoon and served as Conductor and Artistic Director for the Spokane British Brass Band, combining his passion for performance with leadership in the brass band community.
