Familiar melodies come alive when you are playing alongside another saxophone. There is real musical satisfaction in balancing parts, supporting a melody, and finishing a complete piece together, all without the intimidation of a large ensemble or the loneliness of solo practice.

Beginning alto saxophonists in their first year who need duet material that is accessible but musically legitimate. This collection works equally well for private studio lessons, beginning band programs, or pairs of students learning in parallel.

• Balance your tone with your duet partner by playing at the same dynamic level from the start of rehearsal. Matching volume matters more than matching perfect intonation at this stage.
