About the Composer: Jay Althouse

Jay Althouse

Jay Althouse holds degrees in Music Education and Music from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he was honored with the Distinguished Alumni award. His compositional catalog spans more than 800 choral works performed regularly across the English-speaking world, and he maintains active membership in ASCAP, where he is a frequent recipient of their Special Award for compositions in standard music.

Beyond his work as a composer, Althouse has shaped music education through multiple channels. He spent eight years in rights and licensing administration for a major educational publisher and served on the Executive Board of the Music Publishers Association of America. His pedagogical contributions include co-authored books on choral technique and composer study, as well as reproducible classroom resources. Althouse has also collaborated with his wife Sally K. Albrecht on children's musicals and vocal collections, and together they created "I Hear America Singing," performed by the San Francisco Girls and Boys Choirs at President Barack Obama's 2009 Inauguration. He resides in North Carolina and serves on the board of the Folk Art Society of America.
