About the Composer: Sally K. Albrecht

Sally K. Albrecht

Sally K. Albrecht brings three decades of experience shaping choral music for educational settings. As Director of School Choral, Vocal, and Elementary Publications at Alfred Music, she developed an instinct for what works in rehearsal and on stage. Her catalog exceeds 600 choral works, and she has annually received the ASCAP Special Music Award since 1987, recognition of her consistent output and influence in the field.

Beyond publishing, Albrecht has conducted honor choirs at major venues including Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, and The Kennedy Center. She holds degrees from Rollins College (B.A. in Music and Theater, 1976), the University of Miami (M.A. in Drama, 1977; M.M. in Accompanying, 1979), and has taught at Oakland University, Jersey City State College, and Meredith College. In 2021, she received the Distinguished Alumna Award from both the University of Miami Frost School of Music and Rollins College.

Why we love this

Albrecht's sacred works balance accessibility with musical substance. This digital download gives you a recorded piano accompaniment that lets your SATB ensemble rehearse independently while you focus on blend, diction, and interpretation. The combination of concert-ready writing and festival viability makes it practical repertoire that doesn't compromise on musicality.

What to expect

This setting carries the reverent, contemplative quality characteristic of sacred choral music. The accompaniment provided allows singers to focus on creating cohesive voicing and expressive phrasing within a stable harmonic framework.

Who it's for

SATB choirs preparing for concert performances, festival competitions, or liturgical settings will find this straightforward and reliable. Conductors wanting a well-crafted sacred work with strong accompaniment support and flexible rehearsal options will appreciate the PianoTrax format.

How to get the most out of it

  • Establish the harmonic foundation by having the piano play through the piece several times before adding voices. This allows singers to internalize Albrecht's chord progressions and landmarks within the movement.
  • Balance the accompaniement volume in rehearsal to support without overwhelming the ensemble. The recorded track can be adjusted for full-group runs versus sectional work on individual voice lines.
  • Pay attention to text stress and phrasing cues in the vocal parts. Albrecht's choral writing typically aligns melodic shape with textual meaning, so highlighting these connections strengthens both musicality and pronunciation.

How to use it

Include this in a sacred music concert alongside works in contrasting styles or languages to deepen the spiritual dimension of your program. The recorded accompaniment makes it workable even when a pianist is unavailable, opening scheduling flexibility for festival entries or community concert performances.

Skills your students will build

  • SATB voice independence and balance within a hymn-like harmonic structure
  • Diction and text clarity in sacred language
  • Listening and blend relative to a recorded accompaniment
  • Sectional rehearsal discipline using digital audio support
