More about this title

About the Arranger: Jack Zaino

Jack Zaino

Jack Zaino bridges the worlds of music education and contemporary popular music. A Connecticut-based choral educator with deep roots in the state's choral community, he holds degrees in voice and music education from the University of Connecticut, along with a Master's in Curriculum and Instruction. He taught middle school music in Connecticut public schools before joining Alfred Music as a choral editor, clinician, and composer.

Zaino's arrangements reflect a genuine commitment to finding artistry in pop styles. His published work features arrangements of songs by Kacey Musgraves, Dan + Shay, and Lizzo, bringing current repertoire into choral contexts without sacrificing musicality. Connecticut ACDA recognized him as Young Choral Director of the Year in 2020. He remains active in the choral community, serving as composition chair of the Connecticut ACDA repertoire and resources committee and on the programming committee for Consonare Choral Community.

Why we love this

Zaino's arrangement taps into the appeal of pop-influenced choral writing while maintaining genuine vocal writing that students actually enjoy singing. The SoundTrax accompaniment gives you a polished, broadcast-quality foundation without requiring live instrumentation. For directors programming pop music that doesn't feel dumbed down or overly simplified, this delivers.

What to expect

Energetic and modern, with the familiarity of a beloved TV show filtered through fresh vocal harmony. The arrangement balances accessibility with musical polish, creating something that feels current and fun while remaining singable for ensemble contexts.

Who it's for

This digital choral octavo works for show choirs, concert choirs, and pop/contemporary ensembles from high school through adult levels. It's ideal for directors seeking repertoire that appeals to singers who love current music and want to perform it with real musicality.

How to get the most out of it

  • Balance the vocal lines so the humor and charm of the original arrangement come through without the accompaniment overpowering the singers.
  • Use the recorded accompaniment to establish tempo and groove confidently; let it anchor your rehearsals so singers can focus on blend and diction.
  • Pay attention to contemporary phrasing and rhythmic flexibility typical of pop style; avoid metronomic rigidity that would strip the energy from the piece.
  • Emphasize clear diction in ensemble passages, especially if the source material relies on witty or rapid text delivery.

How to use it

Program this as part of a pop music showcase or contemporary choral concert to give audiences something they recognize and enjoy. It also pairs well with other Alfred Pop Choral Series selections if you're building a themed set. The recorded accompaniment makes it practical for shorter rehearsal seasons or programs where instrumental accompaniment isn't available.

  • Rhythmic precision in pop/contemporary styles
  • Ensemble blend and balance across multiple vocal lines
  • Interpretation of humor and character in musical theater and pop contexts
