About the Composer: Sally K. Albrecht

Sally K. Albrecht

Sally K. Albrecht has shaped choral music education for over three decades as a composer, conductor, and clinician with deep expertise in movement and staged choral work. Her catalog exceeds 600 published pieces alongside 75 full-length musicals and songbooks, earning her annual ASCAP Special Music Awards since 1987. She served as Director of School Choral, Vocal, and Elementary Publications at Alfred Music and has guest conducted honor choirs at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, and The Kennedy Center.

Albrecht holds degrees from Rollins College (B.A. in Music and Theater, 1976), University of Miami (M.A. in Drama, 1977; M.M. in Accompanying, 1979), and taught at Oakland University, Jersey City State College, and Meredith College. In 2021, she received Distinguished Alumna Awards from both the University of Miami Frost School of Music and Rollins College, where she serves on the Board of Trustees. She lives in Wake Forest, North Carolina, with her husband, composer Jay Althouse.

Why we love this

Albrecht's sacred pieces land in that sweet spot where accessibility meets genuine artistry. With the recorded accompaniment included, your singers can rehearse independently, and the available instrumental parts let you build the texture you need for your space and setting.

What to expect

Jubilate Deo radiates joy and affirmation. The music lifts without becoming lightweight, offering your singers the satisfaction of singing something genuinely uplifting while maintaining musical integrity.

Who it's for

Intermediate to advanced choirs looking for repertoire with both spiritual substance and practical flexibility. This works equally well for concert settings, worship services, or festival programs where accompaniment support matters.

How to get the most out of it

  • Balance the piece by listening to how the recorded accompaniment sits in your rehearsal space; adjust your singers' dynamic levels to sit comfortably above or blend with the tracks depending on your venue.
  • If you're using the instrumental parts, have your rhythm section lock in early so the choir can anchor against solid accompaniment during sectionals.
  • Mark phrase breathes clearly in score study; sacred texts benefit from breath points that honor both musical shape and textual meaning.

How to use it

Pair this with other works by Albrecht for thematic programming, or use it as a centerpiece in a spring concert celebrating sacred choral literature. It's substantial enough to anchor a set but accessible enough not to demand extensive rehearsal time.

Skills your students will build

  • Singing with conviction in sacred texts
  • Balancing with recorded accompaniment
  • Sustaining longer phrases with proper breath support
  • Blending voice parts in full harmony textures
