Wagner studied music at Butler University, earning both undergraduate and graduate degrees before launching a thirty-year career as a high school music educator and administrator in the Chicago area. Since 1973, he has become one of the most prolific composers in American music education, with over 3,500 published works spanning choir, concert band, orchestra, handbell ensemble, and keyboard music. His compositions have circulated widely, with more than seventeen million copies sold and performances documented in concert halls and broadcasts across the United States and internationally. Wagner now lives in Indianapolis with his wife Sandy, focusing full-time on composition and arrangement.
