You Better Sleigh! by JaRod Hall and Wise Up by Gordon Goodwin are both popular contest and festival choices. For entry-level groups, You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch and Avenue Swing give students immediate success at Grade 1 difficulty.

Recent additions include Salsa on the Side by Mike Pendowski, Can't Go Wrong by Ken Mattis, and Just Playin' Around by Erik Morales, all released in February 2026. Ryan Fraley's Zifflemeyer Blues, Rachel Steckler's Moving On, and Rob Vuono Jr.'s Riddle in Swing round out the newest material from late 2025 and early 2026.

Gordon Goodwin started writing full compositions at five years old and wrote his first big band chart at thirteen. His work in television and film has earned him three Emmy nominations, and Wise Up remains one of the most requested charts for jazz ensembles at the Grade 3.5 level.

Kris Berg directs jazz studies at Collin County Community College in Texas and has made his mark as both educator and arranger. Under his direction, Collin's jazz ensembles have performed at Montreux, and his charts circulate widely in schools and at jazz festivals across the country.

Dave Wolpe has been arranging since 1965 and brings decades of work with the Glenn Miller Orchestra and regional big bands to his scores. His arrangements for platinum recordings and established orchestras reflect a deep knowledge of what works for ensemble performance and recording.
