About This Collection

Description

This collection centers on jazz standards and funk classics arranged for ensemble at accessible levels. Herbie Hancock's Chameleon, Watermelon Man, and Cantaloupe Island are perennial favorites that teachers return to year after year, all pitched at Grade 2 so they work for developing ensembles. You'll find 280 titles spanning jazz, latin, swing, and funk across grade levels from Grade 1 through Grade 4, with particular depth at Grades 2 and 3. Whether you're building a contest setlist or adding reliable repertoire to your regular rotation, these arrangements have proven themselves in rehearsals and performance.

Highlights

Teachers keep coming back to Herbie Hancock's Chameleon for its accessibility and groove, followed closely by Watermelon Man and Cantaloupe Island, all arranged at Grade 2. Victor López's Sing, Sing, Sing and James M. Peterik's Vehicle round out the core titles that move consistently, while JaRod Hall's You Better Sleigh! proves especially valuable for holiday programs.

Composer Spotlight

Gordon Goodwin began composing full arrangements by age 13 and has brought that precocious gift for orchestration to film and television work, earning three Emmy nominations. His Wise Up remains a favorite among ensemble directors looking for contemporary sophistication at manageable difficulty levels.

Alan Baylock directs the Grammy-nominated One O'Clock Lab Band at the University of North Texas and spent 20 years as Chief Arranger for the Air Force Band's Airmen of Note. His Things Ain't What They Used to Be carries the weight of that professional pedigree while remaining practical for school ensembles.

Dave Wolpe has been arranging since 1965 and scored dozens of charts for the Glenn Miller Orchestra, including work on the platinum CD In the Christmas Mood. His arrangements for this collection draw on decades of experience writing for professional big bands.
