Bob Phillips

Bob Phillips has spent decades shaping string education through a distinctive blend of classical rigor and stylistic exploration. Since 1953, he has authored more than 25 instructional series and published over 200 works for orchestra and band, earning ASCAP recognition and performances at the Midwest Clinic. His contributions span pedagogical innovation (Sound Innovations, String Explorer) and genre-crossing collections (Jazz Philharmonic, Mariachi Philharmonic, Rock Philharmonic, Latin Philharmonic) that have reached thousands of young musicians annually.

For 27 years, Phillips directed the Saline, Michigan string program, building it into a national model with over 700 students and launching the internationally acclaimed Saline Fiddlers Philharmonic. He has served as guest conductor for state and all-state orchestras across the country, worked as resident conductor for the Wintergrass Festival in Seattle, and created instructional video clinics widely adopted by teachers. His approach reflects a deep commitment to both technical excellence and the joy of playing music across many styles.
