Why we love this

Technic Today, Part 2 takes the guesswork out of technical development by providing focused, systematic exercises that align perfectly with Band Today, Part Two. Ployhar's 800-publication track record means every exercise serves a clear pedagogical purpose without filler. Your baritone players get exactly what they need to build solid technique alongside their method book progress, making sectional rehearsals more efficient and results more visible.

What to expect

Structured yet purposeful practice that builds confidence. Each exercise is designed to isolate and strengthen a specific technical element, so players experience tangible improvement rather than mindless repetition. The progression feels natural because it mirrors the skill-building arc of the method book itself.

Who it's for

Baritone players in intermediate band programs who are working through Band Today, Part Two or any similar intermediate method. This book works equally well as a supplement alongside other method books, making it suitable for players who need reinforcement of technical fundamentals without leaving their current curriculum.

How to get the most out of it

  • Cycle through Technic Today exercises at the start of band rehearsal when students are fresh and focused. This reinforces skills before diving into full ensemble repertoire.
  • Use these exercises to diagnose individual technical issues. If your section struggles with intonation in a certain register, isolate the relevant technical study and address it directly.
  • Assign specific exercises to individual baritones based on their needs rather than treating them as group work. A 24-page book provides enough material to customize practice.
  • Integrate Technic Today examples into warm-up sequences so technique development feels connected to ensemble playing, not separate from it.

How to use it

Assign Technic Today exercises as part of your weekly baritone sectional or mixed brass rehearsal. The 24-page format allows you to work through the book over an entire semester alongside your method book lessons, building technique systematically rather than sporadically. For students working independently on Band Today at home, pairing them with these targeted exercises transforms practice time into measurable technical growth.

Skills your students will build

  • Systematic approach to scales and interval training within the baritone's playable range
  • Tonguing articulation control across varying tempos and note patterns
  • Dynamic control and intonation accuracy in intermediate-level technical passages
  • Sight-reading fluency of intermediate rhythmic and melodic patterns
  • Valve coordination and efficiency in faster technical passages
