About the Composer: Richard Bell

Richard Bell

Richard Bell brings nearly three decades of orchestra teaching experience to his work as associate professor of music at Clayton State University, where he directs the orchestra program and teaches composition and music theory. His career spans middle and high school leadership in Georgia's Clayton and Henry County systems, followed by sustained impact in higher education and advocacy for music education across the state. Bell holds degrees from Florida State University and the University of Georgia, and has led both the Georgia Music Educators Association and the Georgia Chapter of the American String Teachers Association as president. His published works for school orchestra have been performed widely, and his contributions to music education have earned recognition including the GMEA Distinguished Career Award and the Georgia String Teachers Association Lifetime Achievement Award.

Beyond the classroom, Bell serves on steering committees for regional arts planning and presents regularly at national conferences including ASTA and MENC. He conducts the Southern Crescent Symphony and remains a visible advocate for arts education policy in Georgia.
