Bob Phillips, born in 1953, is a composer, author, and conductor recognized as a pioneering force in string education. He has shaped the field through his expertise in large-group pedagogy and his innovative approach to developing eclectic musical styles for string players. His educational materials and compositions reach thousands of young musicians annually, establishing him as one of today's most prolific educational composers and authors.
Phillips has authored more than 25 book series for classroom use, including the complete Sound Innovations series across all six levels and groundbreaking eclectic publications such as Fiddlers Philharmonic, Jazz Philharmonic, Rock Philharmonic, and Mariachi Philharmonic. Over 200 of his works have been published for orchestras and bands, and he is an award-winning ASCAP composer whose pieces are regularly performed at the prestigious Midwest Clinic. His instructional DVDs, String Clinics to Go, have become essential resources for thousands of educators.
Over 27 years in Saline, Michigan, Phillips built a nationally recognized string program serving more than 700 students in both classical and eclectic music styles. He founded the Saline Fiddlers Philharmonic, which gained international prominence under his direction, performing over 80 shows annually while appearing at the White House and the Midwest Clinic. Phillips has conducted extensively with youth symphonies, all-state orchestras, and prestigious camps including those at Interlochen and Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp. He served as resident conductor and arranger for Seattle's Wintergrass Festival for 12 years and worked as assistant music director and arranger for the professional ensemble Barrage 8.

Kirk D. Moss, Ph.D., is Vice Provost for Faculty & Academic Programs at University of Northwestern – St. Paul. He earned recognition as a Faculty Award winner for Excellence in Scholarship in 2021 and holds advanced degrees in music education with a conducting emphasis from the University of Florida, a Master of Music from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, and a Bachelor of Music from the University of Michigan.
His professional contributions span numerous leadership roles within string music education. Moss served as national president of the American String Teachers Association and chaired the ASTA National Orchestra Festival on five occasions. He has received six ASTA National Citations for Leadership & Merit and an Alumni Outstanding Achievement Award from the University of Florida School of Music. Additionally, he coauthored the Sound Innovations series method books for Alfred Music and has created numerous string orchestra arrangements.
Throughout his career, Moss has worked as a guest conductor, clinician, and adjudicator across nearly forty states and Australia. During twelve years teaching school orchestras at the elementary through high school levels, his groups achieved recognition at state, national, and international competitions.
