About the Authors
Bob Phillips, born in 1953, is a composer, author, conductor, and string pedagogue recognized for transforming music education through innovative teaching methods. His expertise in large group instruction and eclectic musical styles has made him one of the most influential educational composers working today. Thousands of string students annually perform from his compositions and instructional materials.
Phillips has authored more than 25 classroom book series, including all six levels of Sound Innovations and five groundbreaking eclectic style collections: Fiddlers Philharmonic, Jazz Philharmonic, Rock Philharmonic, Mariachi Philharmonic, and Latin Philharmonic, along with Fiddle and Song. Over 200 of his orchestral and band works have been published, and he is an award-winning ASCAP composer whose pieces regularly appear on Midwest Clinic programs. His instructional video series, String Clinics to Go, has become a resource for thousands of teachers nationwide.
During his 27 year tenure in Saline, Michigan, Phillips built a string program serving over 700 students that became a national model for excellence in both classical and contemporary music. He founded the Saline Fiddlers Philharmonic, which gained international prominence under his direction while performing more than 80 shows annually and appearing multiple times at the White House and the Midwest Clinic. Phillips has also served as resident conductor and arranger for the Wintergrass Festival in Seattle for 12 years and has conducted numerous youth orchestras, all-state ensembles, and honor orchestras across the United States and internationally, including programs at Interlochen, Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, and the Queensland Honour Ensemble Program. He previously worked as assistant music director and arranger for the professional ensemble Barrage 8.

Peter Loel Boonshaft stands as one of today's most dynamic voices in music education. He serves as Director of Education for Jupiter Band Instruments and is Professor Emeritus of Music at Hofstra University, where he was selected for the Center for Scholarly Research and Academic Excellence. His achievements have garnered recognition from the highest levels. Boonshaft received the inaugural George M. Parks Award for Leadership in Music Education from the National Association for Music Education and Music For All. His academic credentials include memberships in Pi Kappa Lambda and Alpha Chi, along with two Regent's Awards and the Outstanding Music Educator Award from the University of Hartford.
