About the Composer: Brant Karrick

Brant Karrick has shaped band programs across multiple institutions and states throughout his career. He served as Director of Bands at Northern Kentucky University beginning in 2003, where he oversaw the full band curriculum including conducting, instrumental methods, and music theory courses. Before that role, he taught at the University of Toledo for nine years and spent seven years directing public school bands in Kentucky. His education includes a Ph.D. in music education from Louisiana State University (1994), a Master of Arts in education from Western Kentucky University, and a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Louisville.

Karrick remains active as a guest conductor, clinician, and adjudicator while maintaining a compositional practice that has reached audiences across North America, Europe, Africa, South America, Asia, and Australia. His work as both educator and composer reflects deep engagement with teacher preparation and the development of meaningful band literature. Beyond music, he is an accomplished outdoor enthusiast whose interests in hiking, fishing, and travel inform his creative perspective.
