About the Composer: Richard Meyer

Richard Meyer has shaped string programs across Southern California for 35 years, directing orchestras at every level from elementary through high school. His tenure at Oak Avenue Intermediate School transformed a 29-student program into a 200-student ensemble while simultaneously overseeing the district's elementary string initiative. He conducted the Pasadena Youth Symphony Orchestra for 16 years, taking them on international tours to Vienna, Australia, Canada, and major U.S. cities.

Beyond the rehearsal room, Meyer has earned national recognition as both an innovator and a prolific composer. His "Giving Bach" program uses interactive concerts to serve special needs and underserved students throughout Southern California. He maintains an active schedule as a guest conductor and clinician at major conferences and honor orchestras, and his compositional catalog now includes over 190 works and arrangements. For 16 years he served as string editor for Alfred Publishing Company and co-authored the String Explorer Series and Sight-read It for Strings.
