About the Author: Gayle Kowalchyk

Dr. Gayle Kowalchyk has shaped piano pedagogy and teacher training across multiple institutions, including California State University, Northridge, where she teaches class piano, piano, and piano pedagogy. She earned her piano performance degree from Ohio University, followed by advanced study in performance and pedagogy at Northwestern University, and completed an Ed.D. in piano pedagogy at Teachers College, Columbia University.

As a clinician, adjudicator, and presenter at national conferences spanning MTNA, MENC, the National Group Piano Symposium, and the World Piano Pedagogy Conference, Dr. Kowalchyk brings extensive classroom experience to her curriculum writing. Together with her husband, Dr. E. L. Lancaster, she has authored over 300 educational piano books, including the widely adopted Alfred's Premier Piano Course and Music for Little Mozarts. She has taught at Oklahoma Baptist University, the University of Oklahoma, and Eastern Illinois University, where she coordinated class piano programs and directed piano preparatory studies.
