About the Composer: Timothy Loest

Timothy Loest has spent over three decades teaching instrumental music while building a reputation as a composer whose works reach audiences far beyond the concert hall. His pieces for young band are performed internationally, and his contributions to music education have earned recognition including the Illinois Grade School Music Association's Cloyd Myers Memorial Award for Excellence in Music Education in 2017. His composition Cloud Gate (Reflections of a City) reached over 5,000 spectators when performed at Chicago's Millennium Park that same year.

Loest's catalog spans publications with Warner Bros., C.L. Barnhouse, The FJH Music Company, and MakeMusic Publications, beginning with his first published work in 1995. He is closely associated with several widely adopted band resources including Measures of Success: A Comprehensive Musicianship Band Method and the Beyond series (Warm-ups and Beyond, Rhythms and Beyond, Chorales and Beyond). Beyond concert music, his compositions have been featured on network television including The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Good Morning America, and other major broadcasts. In 2022, he founded Fanfare Music Press to publish high-quality compositions and arrangements for band. Loest holds degrees from Illinois State University and Northwestern University, maintains ASCAP membership, and welcomes commissions through his website.
