About the Composer: Loreta Fin

Loreta Fin AM is an Australian string educator, conductor, and prolific composer with deep roots in both performance and music education. A graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and former concertmaster of the Sydney Youth Orchestra, she spent over 25 years as Principal Viola with the Queensland Pops Orchestra while building a parallel career as Director of Strings at Somerville House School in Brisbane since 1993. Her leadership extended to the Australian Strings Association, where she served as both State and National President, and she has adjudicated major competitions across Australia and presented at national conferences in both Australia and the United States.

Fin has composed over 100 works for string orchestra published worldwide by Alfred Music, establishing herself as a trusted voice in the field of young string ensemble repertoire. Her contributions to music education earned her recognition as State Advisor for Strings with the Australian Music Examinations Board, nomination for an ARIA "Best Teacher" award, and a National Award for Services to Music and String Teaching. Since 2015, she has regularly conducted the State and National Honours Ensembles Programs in Brisbane, bringing her expertise in string pedagogy to the highest levels of student performance.
