About the Composer: Bob Phillips

Bob Phillips has shaped string education across North America through decades of teaching, composing, and conducting. Beginning with his 27-year tenure building the Saline, Michigan string program to over 700 students, he established a model that integrated classical training with eclectic styles. His pedagogical influence extends through more than 25 published book series, including Sound Innovations and the genre-specific Philharmonic collections (Jazz, Rock, Mariachi, Latin, and Fiddlers), which are used by thousands of students annually.

As a composer, Phillips has published over 200 works for orchestras and bands and holds ASCAP awards for his contributions. He founded the Saline Fiddlers Philharmonic, an ensemble that performed internationally and at the White House, and served as resident conductor at the Wintergrass Festival in Seattle. Phillips has guest conducted at all-state orchestras and honors ensembles across multiple states and at prestigious camps including Interlochen and Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, bringing his expertise in both classical and contemporary string repertoire to musicians nationwide.
