About the Composer: Richard Meyer

Richard Meyer spent 35 years teaching string students across elementary, middle, and high school settings in public schools. At Oak Avenue Intermediate School in Temple City, California, he directed orchestras for 22 years, expanding the program from 29 students to 200 while overseeing the city's elementary string initiative. He also served as music director of the Pasadena Youth Symphony Orchestra for 16 years, leading ensembles in performances across New York, Washington D.C., Vienna, Australia, and Canada.

Beyond the classroom, Meyer has established himself as a nationally recognized composer with over 190 works and arrangements published. His "Giving Bach" program, launched in 2009, brings interactive concerts to students with special needs and in underserved schools throughout Southern California. He has presented at the A.S.T.A. National Conference, the Texas Orchestra Directors' Association Conference, and various state honor orchestra clinics. Meyer spent 16 years as string editor for Alfred Publishing and co-authored the widely-used String Explorer Series and Sight-read It for Strings.
