About the Composer: Richard Meyer

Richard Meyer has built a career around transforming string programs in public schools. Over 35 years of classroom teaching, he grew the orchestra program at Oak Avenue Intermediate School in Temple City, California from 29 students to 200 while simultaneously directing the city's elementary string curriculum. His work earned him the position of music director for the Pasadena Youth Symphony Orchestra, a role he held for 16 years and used to take young musicians on performance tours across North America, Europe, and Australia.

Beyond the rehearsal room, Meyer has shaped string education through composition, publication, and advocacy. He has over 190 compositions and arrangements in print and served 16 years as string editor at Alfred Publishing, where he co-authored the String Explorer Series and Sight-read It for Strings. In 2009, he created the "Giving Bach" program, an innovative concert initiative that has gained national recognition for bringing music education to underserved and special needs populations throughout Southern California. Meyer continues his work as a guest conductor and clinician at major conferences including the A.S.T.A. National Conference.
