About the Composer: Adrian B. Sims

Adrian B. Sims

Adrian B. Sims is a composer, conductor, educator, and trombonist born in Seattle in 2000. A University of Maryland student pursuing dual degrees in Music Education and Composition, he studies composition with Dr. Robert Gibson and has been mentored by Grammy-winning composer Brian Balmages. His work has appeared at the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, earned recognition on the Bandworld Top 100 List, and won multiple composition competitions including the Maryland Music Educators Association Young Composers Project and the Make Music Young Composers Contest.

As a performer, Sims brings real ensemble experience to his writing. He has performed alongside the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, participated in Maryland All-State Band, and currently plays in top ensembles at the University of Maryland. His teachers Christopher Gnagey and Cindy Stevenson shaped his early musical foundation, and he channels that hands-on understanding of what works in the rehearsal room directly into his scores.
