About the Composer: Michael Kamuf

Michael Kamuf

Michael Kamuf earned degrees in Jazz Performance and Music Education from Youngstown State University's Dana School of Music, followed by a Master of Arts in Instrumental Conducting from George Mason University. His compositions and arrangements have been performed by major ensembles including the Woody Herman and Glenn Miller Orchestras, the USAF Airmen of Note, and the US Navy Commodores, as well as by soloists such as James Moody, Eddie Daniels, and Sean Jones. He serves as an exclusive writer for the Belwin Division of Alfred Music Publishing and has published over 100 works across jazz, orchestra, and concert band catalogs.

Kamuf taught instrumental music for Montgomery County Public Schools in Maryland for three decades, including twenty-seven years as Director of Bands and Orchestras at John T. Baker Middle School in Damascus, where his ensembles consistently earned high festival ratings and commissioned multiple works for young concert bands. He currently leads the Mike Kamuf Little Big Band, a jazz octet featuring musicians from the Baltimore and Washington, DC regions. His extensive experience in both performance and music education informs every piece he writes for developing musicians.
