About the Composer: William Owens
William Owens brings three decades of classroom experience to his compositional work. A 1985 graduate of VanderCook College of Music, he spent 30 years as a band director in Texas before retiring in 2014, giving him deep insight into what young musicians need to play and what conductors need to teach.
Owens has emerged as one of the most prolific composers for developing ensembles, with over 300 published titles across concert band, string orchestra, and chamber settings. His work appears on state and national required music lists, and his compositional approach balances musical substance with pedagogical practicality. He holds membership in ASCAP, TMEA, and Phi Beta Mu International Bandmasters Fraternity, and has received commissions from South Plains College, the American Bandmasters Association, and other major organizations. He resides in Fort Worth, Texas.
