About the Composer: Randall Hartsell

Randall Hartsell's gift lies in composing music that speaks directly to students. Born and raised in North Carolina, he began piano lessons at 12, practicing daily at his aunt and uncle's house before his parents eventually brought a piano into their home. His early compositions drew inspiration from literature studied in English class and expanded to accompany his high school choir, planting the seeds for a lifetime of creative work.

After studying at East Carolina University, Hartsell returned to teaching and composing in his hometown, eventually connecting with Lynn Freeman Olson in the early 1980s, a meeting that led to his first publication with Alfred. Now based in Charlotte, he maintains an active career as educator, composer, accompanist, and adjudicator. His catalog exceeds 60 published works, each carrying his signature lyrical approach that engages musicians across all levels.
