About the Composer: Jay Althouse

Jay Althouse

Jay Althouse studied Music Education and Music at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he later received the Distinguished Alumni award. His career spans both the publishing world, where he spent eight years managing rights and licenses and served on the Executive Board of the Music Publishers Association of America, and prolific composition; he has over 800 choral works in print across all difficulty levels, performed regularly throughout the English-speaking world.

Althouse is a writer member of ASCAP and a frequent recipient of their Special Award for contributions to standard music composition. Beyond choral music, he has co-written children's musicals with Sally K. Albrecht, compiled vocal solo collections, and authored or co-authored instructional resources including The Complete Choral Warm-up Book, Accent on Composers, and several reproducible classroom materials. He co-wrote I Hear America Singing, performed by the San Francisco Girls and Boys Choirs at President Obama's 2009 Inauguration. Active in his community, he has served on the board of the North Carolina Master Chorale and currently serves on the National Advisory Board of the Folk Art Society of America.
