About the Composer: Richard Meyer

Richard Meyer spent 35 years teaching string students across elementary, middle, and high school levels in Southern California public schools. During 22 of those years, he directed orchestras at Oak Avenue Intermediate School in Temple City, transforming the program from 29 students to 200 while overseeing the city's elementary string curriculum. He led the Pasadena Youth Symphony Orchestra for 16 years, taking ensembles to performances across New York, Washington D.C., Vienna, Australia, and Canada.

Meyer has established himself as a nationally recognized composer with over 190 works and arrangements published. He served as string editor for Alfred Publishing Company for 16 years and co-authored several string method resources, including the String Explorer Series and Sight-read It for Strings. In 2009, he developed the "Giving Bach" program at his school, an initiative that has earned national recognition for using interactive concerts to reach students with special needs and those in underserved communities throughout Southern California. He continues an active schedule as a guest conductor and clinician at conferences and workshops nationwide.
