Jay Althouse

Jay Althouse studied music education and music at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he later received the Distinguished Alumni award. He spent eight years in music publishing administration, serving on the Executive Board of the Music Publishers Association of America, before establishing himself as one of the most prolific choral composers working today with over 800 published works.

Althouse has built a career bridging popular and pedagogical music. His output spans children's musicals written with Sally K. Albrecht, curated vocal collections, curriculum resources like Ready to Read Music and Sixty Music Quizzes, and choral arrangements that reach singers at every level across the English-speaking world. He holds membership in ASCAP and is a regular recipient of the ASCAP Special Award. His collaborative work on I Hear America Singing brought his choral writing to national prominence when it was performed at President Obama's inauguration in 2009.
